Junior High Roundup:PJHS teams split Thursday games

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville (Junior High School) opened an early six-point lead and maintained that margin for most of the contest Thursday night, holding back Du Quoin (Middle School) 33-25 at the Hugh Malan Complex.

The Lady Warriors are now 1-2 for the season.

PJHS led 6-0 after one period and 19-13 as the final frame began.

Hailey Stewart of DMS tossed in a game-high 14 points.

Katelyn Meyer's 10 points led Pinckneyville.

In the seventh grade game, Du Quoin (1-2) posted a 39-8 victory behind the 10 points of Carissa Graham.

Amanda Atteberry (eight points) and Jacqueline Harsy (seven points) just missed scoring in double figures.

BOYS FALL INTO FIFTH PLACE GAME

Sparta (Middle School) used a 22-7 fourth quarter to break open a tight game, defeating Pinckneyville (Junior High School) 63-41 in the third game of the Marissa Invitational Tournament.

The Junior Panthers, 1-2, played Friday at 6:30 against Marissa to decide fifth place.

PJHS trailed just 41-34 entering the last frame before Sparta pulled away.

A balanced Pinckneyville attack was led by Henry Dudek's 10 points.

Chase Lazenby and Lucas Carter each had nine. Brayden Cowley chipped in eight points and Justyn Rushing five.
