Junior High Basketball: Lady Warriors Stay in Contention at #204, DMS Boys Finals Friday

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin (Middle School) upped its record at the Pinckneyville (#204) Lady Tigers Invitational Tournament to 2-1 Thursday, romping past Chester (Middle School).

The final score was 45-27 as the Lady Warriors improved to 3-3 overall. At 8 o'clock Friday night, they'll tangle with Tamaroa/St. Bruno and then close the tourney versus Pinckneyville (Junior High School) Saturday morning.

DMS had players score at least eight points-Abby Myers (12), Katrina Whitley (10), Jacqueline Harsy (nine) and Hailey Stewart (eight)-to post the victory.

Ahead just 29-24 entering the last quarter, the Lady Warriors pulled away with a 16-3 run to end the game.

Ashanti Warren, Morgan Dennis and Amanda Atteberry all added baskets.

As the #204 event enters its final two sessions, T/SB leads with a 3-0 record. DMS, #204 an PJHS are all 2-1. Chester and Thompsonville remain winless.

BOYS ROUND-UP

Pinckneyville lost to Herrin Thursday, 49-40. Chase Lazenby had nine points and Justyn Rushing eight for the Junior Panthers, who won the seventh grade tilt 29-24.

Friday night, the 10th Annual Warriors Tip-Off Classic concludes at Du Quoin Middle School.

At 6 p.m., Benton (0-2) and Trico (0-2) play in a game that decides third place. Du Quoin, 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the event, faces a powerful Salem team (2-0) in the title game at 7:30.
