A LIfe Well-Lived, a Job Well Done for Illinois' Longest Serving School Board Member

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 during the opening session of the 77th Joint Annual Conference of the IASB/IASA/IASBO held in Chicago, John Vancil, long-time Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 School Board Member was recognized with three other individuals in serving for more than 40 years as a school board member in the state of Illinois.

IASB President Mark Metzger asked Mr. Vancil to stand during the opening session to be recognized as the longest continuous serving Board of Education Member in the state. In standing to be honored for his service, Mr. Vancil received a standing ovation from every attendee during this session for his 50 years of service as a school board member.

John Vancil has been a member of the District #300 Board of Education since the inception of the District in 1968 and previously served on the Sunfield Grade School Board of Education. During his time on the District #300 Board he has served as President, Vice-President, and is currently Secretary of the Board. He has also served as an officer in the Egyptian Division of the Illinois Association of School Boards.

John is married to Elaine Vancil, the father of five children, has nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
