Lady Panthers 5-0 after home win over Anna-Jonesboro

That road to victory, however, wasn't without its share of bumps.
The Lady Panthers, 5-0, topped Anna-Jonesboro (1-4, 0-1) 56-44 in the River-to-River Conference opener for both squads in Thomas Memorial Gymnasium.
A-J committed 34 turnovers against Pinckneyville's sticky man-to-man defense, all but a dozen coming during the first half as the hosts opened a 28-15 lead. For the game, PCHS recorded 23 steals.
"I thought we played really hard in the first half and created a lot of steals," Lady Panthers coach Alan Engelhardt said. "The thing we need to do a better job of is converting those steals into points."
Pinckneyville's 13-point halftime edge quickly ballooned to 24 (41-17) before A-J closed the frame with a big spurt of its own. The margin was 42-29 as the fourth quarter began.
Pinckneyville's edge slipped to 10 at 49-39 midway through the final period, but A-J could get no closer.
"I really thought we let down after we pushed the lead to 24 in the third quarter," said Engelhardt. "We never really could get back into the offensive flow after that."
Taylor Cicardi had a game-high 18 points for PCHS and hauled down 10 rebounds. Emily Miller just missed a triple-double, recording 15 points to go with eight rebounds and nine steals.
Dani Jenkel added 14 points, seven in each half. Cicardi scored all but four of her points in the first two quarters.
"We aren't playing with a whole lot of confidence offensively right now," Engelhardt said. "This is strange because we are averaging over 60 points per game. Hopefully we can get that offensive rythmn and confidence back."
Pinckneyville plays host to Benton (2-4) Thursday night.
