Junior High Roundup: Busy Night for Local Teams Thursday

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Tamaroa/St. Bruno improved its record to 3-10 in boys junior high school basketball Thursday, defeating Ina (Grade School). The final score was 44-36.

Brock Bullar led T/SB with 12 points and five steals.

Dayne Winter also scored a dozen points while grabbing six rebounds.

Nolan Luke (11 points, six rebounds) was also solid.

Kyle Brocaille and Tyler Iubelt completed the T/SB scoring with five and four points, respectively.

In the seventh grade game, T/SB improved to 7-1 and 6-0 in conference play after whipping Ina 43-18.

Iubelt (14) and Bullar (13) were leading point-makers.

LADY WARRIORS SPLIT

Du Quoin Middle School defeated Elverado (Junior High School) but lost to Trico (Junior High School) in girls basketball this week.

At Vergennes Wednesday, the Lady Warriors won 41-17 as Bailie Caldwell scored 12 points and Hailey Stewart netted 11.

Hart and Kiley Bedar were EJHS leaders with six and four points.

In seventh grade play, DMS won 24-17. Jacqueline Harsy had eight points and Marisa Ferguson six.

At home against Trico Thursday, DMS (5-11, 1-5) dropped a 44-31 conference decision.

Hailey Stewart of DMS popped in a game-high 16 points, converting three three-point baskets. Abby Myers had eight points.

Trico's Kourtney Bunselmeyer finished with 13.

Du Quoin (9-3, 5-1) won the preliminary contest 17-6.

Harsy had 11 of the DMS

points.

JR. PANTHERS SURPRISE SPARTA

Pinckneyville (Junior High School) avenged an early season loss Thursday, surprising Sparta (Middle School) 58-54.

Chase Lazenby and Justyn Rushing shared game-best honors with 14 points.

Henry Dudek added 12 points with Robbie Mueller and Brayden Cowley each netting nine.

PJHS trailed 30-24 at halftime before rallying to take the lead in the third quarter.

T/SB FIGHTS BACK ELVERADO

After a 12-day layoff, Tamaroa/St. Bruno returned to Quad-County Athletic Conference (QCAC) play and held off Elverado, 40-27.

Now 14-3 overall, T/SB is 3-2 in QCAC play.

"This was our first game back after 1 1/2 weeks off and we were kind of rusty," Lady Indians coach Jim Harris said. "It was a nice win against a scrappy Elverado team."

Kaylee Rulevish was the top T/SB scorer in a balanced attack, netting 10 points. Bailey Nippe, Dalis Hubler and Jordan Koenegstein all had eight points.

Rulevish led in rebounding (eight) with Nippe, Koenegstein and Hubler all passing out two assists.

Nippe had a team-best four steals.

Haley Szczepanski returned to the T/SB line-up Thursday after a long absence due to an ankle injury.

C. Abbadusky had nine points for the Lady Junior Falcons.

Elverado won the seventh grade game over T/SB (3-5, 1-5) 29-23.
