Officer Mike Plumlee said the derailment was about three-quarters of a mile east of the county line in western Perry County.
No one was injured and Rt. 150 was blocked for about an hour.
The Missouri Pacific Railroad used an engine from the nearby Trans Load operation at the old Captain Mine preparation plant to separate the engines and the derailed cars to clear the crossing.
Rail service crews put the two engines and two cars back on the track and cleaned up the scene by late evening.
Deputies stayed at the scene in case any assistance was needed.
