IHSA Basketball: Du Quoin named as Regional and Sectional Host
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) confirmed Wednesday that Du Quoin High School has been awarded a pair of Class 2A postseason basketball tournaments.
Newly-renovated Anders Memorial Gym will host the IHSA Girls Sectional Feb. 15,16 and 18. Regional winners from Breese Central, Sparta, Benton and Murphysboro will feed into the event with the champion advancing into super-sectional round at a site yet-to-be determined.
Du Quoin will play in the regional at Benton. Sesser-Valier/Waltonville, Benton, West Frankfort and Z-R-C will also be there.
Pinckneyville's assigned to the Sparta regional with Chester, Nashville, Red Bud and Sparta.
Du Quoin last hosted the IHSA Girls Sectional, then Class A, in 2004.
Anders Gym will be home to it first boys regional since 2006. The dates are Feb. 22-26 .
Herrin, Benton, Du Quoin, Johnston City and West Frankfort comprise the field with the champion joining winners from Chester, Carterville and Harrisburg at Herrin's Sectional.
Pinckneyville is assigned to the Chester Regional where Chester, Red Bud and Sparta have also been sent.
"We are elated about being chosen by the IHSA," Du Quoin Athletic Director John Campbell said.
"With the improvements we've made to Anders Gym this will be a nice way to showcase our facility, which we are pretty proud of. We are looking forward to both tournaments."
The IHSA boys super-sectional is being held in West Frankfort's Max Morris Gymnasium.
In Class 1A, Elverado's girls head north to the Woodlawn Regional. The field there includes Woodlawn, Sandoval-Odin, Galatia-Thompsonville, Webber Township and Centralia's Christ Our Rock Lutheran.
The boys go to Chester for a rugged regional with Trico, Evansville (Christ Our Savior Lutheran), Marissa-Coulterville, New Athens, Okawville and Steeleville
