'Tis the Holiday Season: Tough Saturday for Elverado Squads

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The day after Christmas proved less than festive for the boys and girls high school basketball teams from Elverado High School.

At the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament, the Falcon boys (0-10) lost to top seed and tourney host Sesser-Valier 57-22 late Saturday night.

The girls-competing at the Rangerettes Christmas Classic in Benton-lost 60-23 against Carbondale to start Saturday play and then fell 52-24 to Hamilton County in the nightcap.

The Lady Falcons are 2-11 and played Anna-Jonesboro at 4 p.m. to complete pool play.

A fourth game then awaits Tuesday.

Against S-V, Elverado was held scoreless in the second quarter and fell behind 32-5 by intermission.

Kyle Kempfer had eight points with Kyle Whittington and Dalton Porter each scoring five to pace Elverado.

At 6:30 Monday night, the Fighting Falcons battle Century in the elimination round of the 16-team event.

The Lady Falcons trailed 1,400-student Carbondale 25-4 after one quarter and could never recover.

Sami Hicks (six) and Chelsea Cochran (five) were top point-makers. Courtney Morse and Rebekah Korando each netted four.
