Girls Prep Basketball: Lady Panthers 2-0 at Herrin
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Things didn't go quite as scripted for Pinckneyville Community High School's girls basketball team Tuesday night.
The Lady Panthers, however, still managed to notch a second consecutive win at the Herrin Holiday Classic.
PCHS held back Carterville, 46-43, and improved to 11-2 overall.
With its 2-0 tourney record, Pinckneyville plays Vienna Tuesday at 6:30 in round two.
Carterville is 0-2.
"I thought we did a great job of battling through adversity when things didn't go our way," Lady Panthes coach Alan Engelhardt said.
"We still need to do a better job of forcing our tempo on people, but we found a way to grind out another win."
PCHS led throughout the contest, carrying a narrow 28-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
After Carterville trimmed the margin down to one, Maddy Keith tossed in five consecutive points to push the Lady Panthers edge back to six points.
K eith finished with 12 poins and joined Emily Miller (16 points) in double digits.
Lindsay Winter drew the praise of Engelhardt, sparking Pinckneyville with an eight point, six assist effott off the bench.
Taylor Cicardi also scored eight points for Pinckneyville.
"Maddy Keith had a very nice fourth quarter for us and Lindsay Winter did a great job coming off the bench," Engelhardt said. "We have ground out two wins to start the tournament and now we need to get out and play our game to have a shot at winning it."
Pinckneyville plays Cobden and the host Lady Tigers to finish the tournament on Wednesday.
