Courageous Effort Lifts Short-handed Panthers

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Despite three starters and six players in all sitting on the bench, Pinckneyville fought out a victory in Waterloo last night, beating the Bulldogs 75-60 as the Panthers begin a tough test over the next few weeks.

Six Pinckneyville varsity players were suspended for disciplinary reasons before last night's game and were unavailable. The suspensions of the athletes vary in length, but all should return before the end of the regular season.

Shay Kellerman tied the game with 1:34 left in the first half, and Nathan Morton would add two deep balls before the break as the Panthers led 29-25.

After the Bulldogs fought back to regain the lead 38-37, a 12-2 Pinckneyville run at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter started to open things up.

As their lead grew, the Panthers had to earn the victory at the free throw line, as Waterloo started using up their fouls in a last ditch attempt to stay in the game.

Pinckneyville will be shorthanded again this Friday night as they travel to Sparta for S.I.R.R. conference play.
