Winter Storm To Bring Snow to Region

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky. has said much colder than normal temperatures will persist. Highs will remain in the 20's to near 30°F.
Those who are able should closely monitor people who may suffer more from the effects of cold such as the elderly or young children.
Dress to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. The Red Cross says dressing appropriately for the weather includes several layers, waterproof, insulated boots and a hat. Most of your body heat is lost through your head.
Remember to adequately prepare your pets for winter weather, as well. If outdoor animals cannot come inside, supply straw bedding and make sure that the dog house or shelter does not face north.
Check several times a day to make sure that outdoor water supplies are not frozen.
Likewise, take the necessary precautions to ensure your pipes do not freeze.
It is a good idea to have an emergency kit at home and in your car. At home, assemble a flashlight, batteries, a portable battery-powered radio, at lest one gallon of water per person, non-perishable food and a first aid kit.
Winterize your vehicle, including any necessary maintenance to minimize the risk of becoming stranded.
The Red Cross recommends including a battery-powered radio and extra batteries, flashlight and extra batteries, blankets or sleeping bags, booster cables, bottled water, non-perishable snacks and a compass or road map in your vehicle emergency kit.
Adding a fire extinguisher, small shovel, tire repair kit and pump, flares and a sack or sand or cat litter for traction.
If you are stranded, stay in your car. Tie a brightly colored piece of cloth to your car's antenna.
