Joanna S. Emling
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Joanna S. Emling, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:00 a.m.., Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at the Sparta Community Hospital at Sparta.
Joanna was a homemaker and had worked at the Du Quoin Packing Company. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, the Catholic Daughters and the Sacred Heart Quilters.
She was born Dec. 30, 1921 at Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Otto and Josephine (Bann) Stephens.
She married Maurice W. Emling on May 8, 1943 at Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1957.
She is survived by a daughter- Mary Jo Cahill of Fresno, Calif., a son- Jim Emling of Du Quoin, three grandchildren- Noelle Cahill and Kristin Cahill, both of California, grandson- Brian Stephen Cahill of Florida, brother- Bill Stephens of Freeburg, brother-in-law- Bob Emling of Du Quoin, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Steve Emling, three brothers- Harry Stephens, Tim Stephens, and Patrick Stephens, and two sisters- Helen Presswood and Alice Marie Campbell.
A memorial Mass was at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Msgr. Joseph Trapp officiating.
Friends called from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Church. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Masses, Sacred Heart Church Endowment Fund or to the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
