To urge Americans to join the battle against these diseases, since 1963 Congress has required the president to proclaim February "American Heart Month." Pinckneyville Community Hospital will observe National Heart Month by offering a free educational event to provide residents with heart-health information and awareness of heart disease.
The event will include health screenings, blood pressure checks, take home education materials and trained staff to answer any questions or concerns. The event will take place at the hospital lobby on the following dates: February 16, 18, 23 and 25.from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The chance of developing coronary heart disease can be reduced by taking steps to prevent and control factors that put people at greater risk.
Additionally, knowing the signs and symptoms of heart attack are crucial to the most positive outcomes after having a heart attack. People who are survivors of heart attack can also work to reduce the risk of a future heart attack or stroke.
