Du Quoin Extends Appreciation to St. Johns for Industrial Annexation
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A 250-foot wide ribbon of property that runs north and south through the entire Du Quoin Industrial Park was annexed into the City of Du Quoin Monday.
The 16-acre tract had always been part of the ongoing industrial development, but continued to rest in St. John's corporate jurisdiction. The tract runs behind the MPP, Inc. electro-plating industry.
Du Quoin commissioner Rex Duncan took time during the meeting to express his council's appreciation to the St. John's board's generous action of allowing the annexation and taking care of an item the two towns should have taken care of years ago.
The council Monday night also voted to vacate a portion of the alley on the east side of Alongi's Restaurant. The action is the first step in Alongi's expansion eastward into the West Side Drug Store Property.How best to expand is still under study.

The council approved slightly over $7,000 in funds necessary to replace the control panel on the fairgrounds lift station
The council approved to declare the Vac-Con truck repairs an emergency, then voted up to $20,000 for the repair of that sewer cleaning truck. Actual repairs are expected to cost between $10,000 and $15,000.
The council approved the nomination of Peg Van Schnydel to the Tourism Commission
Following an executive session, the council voted to make two personnel changes. The vote actually rescinds an earlier personnel decision.Steve Ingram is being transferred out of the water department and being reinstated into the police department. Kyle Jones was hired to read meters for the water department.
