Jewell M. Hastings

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Jewell M. Hastings, 95, of Marion, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10:22 p.m. at the Coulterville Care Center.

Jewell was born Aug. 4, 1914 in Williamson County, the daughter of William & Texana (Harris) Smith. She married Horace Hastings on Sept. 5, 1931 in Marion and together they shared over 56 years of marriage until his death on May 19, 1988.

She was a homemaker. She attended Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and later she attended the Sunfield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Hastings and wife Robin of Du Quoin and Bob Hastings of Pinckneyville; a daughter, Dorothy Bailey of Granite City; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Horace Hastings; great grandchild, Heather Michelle Hastings; daughter-in-law, Pat Hastings; son-in-law, Gordon Bailey; three brothers, Earl Smith, Ray Smith, Clifford Smith and two sisters, Eula Chapman and Grace Anderson.

Funeral services were Friday, March 12, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Mike Kesling officiating. Burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
