Girls Prep Softball:Lady Indians, M-C split twinbill

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin High School's softball season opened with mixed results Saturday morning in Marissa.

The Lady Tribe rolled Marissa-Coulterville 9-3 in the first game of the doubleheader as senior hurler Chelsea Hill tossed a three-hitter.

In the second game, M-C scored the winning tally in the last of the seventh for an 8-7 victory.

Du Quoin, 1-1, is scheduled to play in the Mt. Vernon Invitational Monday afternoon.

"All and all I thought we hit the ball well in both games," DHS coach Jason James said. "I was a little disappointed in our defense and we need to do a better job of working ahead of batters."

Heather Cavins, Cassidy Rice, Curry Emling and Ashley Ward all enjoyed two-hit efforts in the first game. Kelsey Toler, Hill and Hadley Marek all hit safely with Megi Jones adding two RBI.

Emling tripled and Rice smacked a double as Hill struck out six and didn't issue a walk.

Rice (0-1) was the loser in the second contest, giving seven hits. She whiffed seven and gave five walks.

Toler and Rice led the offense with three hits. Kelsey Robinson and Ward each had two hits, along with Hill. Cavins added an RBI triple.
