</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charlie Truman Scott, 77, of Chester, IL, died March 20, 2010 at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester, IL.
The son of Fonzo and Verby (Reves) Scott, he was born August 3, 1932 in Woolum, AR.
On November 29, 1967, he married Tuyet Thi Nguyen at Camp Davis near Saigon, Vietnam.
Charlie was a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army retiring after 21 years of service, 12 of which were overseas and included the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany, 5th Division in Korea, Vietnam Conflict, and the Tet Offensive. He spent 48 months in combat with several honors including the Silver and Bronze Star. He was later employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections at Menard Correctional Center and retired after 22 years as Food Supervisor. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the VFW Post #3553.
Survivors include his wife of Chester, IL; nine children-Vickie and Ron Emery of North Carolina, Linda and Joe Bruno of Texas, Leona Scott of Texas, Renna and Darrell Froboese of Texas, Minh (Leon) and Gina Scott of Chester, IL, Phuoc (Mary) Beam (friend Chris Graber) of Chester, IL, Marica (Jackie) and Todd Korey of Arizona, Martha and Deon Roth of Chester, IL, Hoang and Tina Nguyen of New York; family friend, Kevin Beam of Chester, IL; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two siblings-Elsie Cope of Harrison, AR, and Martin Scott of Caseyville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one older brother.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, IL, with Rev. Bud Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Rockwood, IL. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday morning from 7:30 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home.
