Charles Polonowski
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles Polonowski, 93, of Dowell, passed away at 12:35 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Hillfdales Hospital at Cass City, Mich.
Charles had worked as a roof bolter for the New Kathleen Coal Mine. He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the UMW of A and the Dowell American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born October 19, 1916 at Marion, Ill., the son of John and Katherine (Ziomek) Polonowski.
He married Mary Pere on Dec. 23, 1950 at Piggott, Ark. and she preceded him in death on April 17, 1999.
He is survived by nieces, including Sally Irons with whom he had made his home, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Michael Ebersohl officiating.
Friends called from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial was in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted by the Dowell American Legion, Murphysboro American Legion, V.F.W. and D.A.V.
