Hilda S. Liefer

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Hilda S. Liefer, 97, of Steeleville, passed away at 3:11 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Sparta Community Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Hilda was born Oct. 10, 1912 in Willisville, the daughter of Henry and Louise (Kueker) Schnepel.

Hilda married Paul H. Liefer on Sept. 6, 1936 in Campbell Hill, Ill. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1987.

She was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville.

She is survived by her children, Betty Ogilvie of Tamaroa, Marilyn and Joe Harding of Steeleville, Larry and Lynn Liefer of Belleville; seven grandchildren, Sherry and David Epperson of Crofton, Maryland, Laurie Liefer of Plano, Tex., Natalie and David Wesbecher of Sparta, Nicole Harding and Nathan Harding, both of Chicago, Matthew Liefer and Kayla Liefer, both of Belleville; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Sophia Wesbecher and one sister, Esther Knop of Chester.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald P. Liefer; sisters, Edna Wiebusch and Elsie Fuhrhop and brothers, William, Fred, Henry Jr. and Charles Schnepel.

Hilda worked for the International Shoe Company in Steeleville. She then worked as a nurse's aid at the Randolph County Nursing Home and retired from that position. She took pride in her home and enjoyed planting flowers and her garden. She always looked forward to seeing her friends, playing cards and bingo at the Steelville Senior Center. Hilda was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her lovely smile and gentle kindness will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services was held Wednesday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville. Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke of St. Mark's Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial was at Paradise Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 7:30 to 11 a.m. and from noon until the hour of service at the church.
