Boys Prep Track: Thinclads show promise at Sparta

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Winning four events, Du Quoin High School's Boys Track team showed plenty of promise in a five-team meet at Sparta's Pierce Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Indians had 157 points, 33 behind host and state-ranked Sparta.

Steeleville (10) , Waterloo Gibault (8) and Okawville (2) also sent individuals.

Juniors Brock Morgenstern (Shot Put) and Karson Hoffman (Triple Jump) were first place finishers along with sophomore Brandon Williams in the Discus.

Hoffman anchored the winning 4x200 varsity relay, which also included David Gayton, David Rose and Luchie Porter.

Du Quoin notched at least a half dozen personal bests.

"Aaron Smith long jumped 20' 6", Indians coach Derek Beard said." He can improve quite a bit. This is his first time jumping in a meet. Our 4 x1 and 4 x 2 teams ran well. Haeden Sweetin jumped 11' in the pole vault. That's a foot better than he has ever jumped. Storm Clarry also recorded a personal best by jumping 10'6". Going first and second in the shot and disc was nice as well. Brandon Williams threw a personal best in the discus at 120' 1," Beard added.
