Girls Prep Softball: Lady Indians rock West Frankfort
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[With three home runs-and the solid pitching of mound ace Chelsea Hill-Du Quoin High School's softball team made a smashing home debut Wednesday.
The Lady Indians, 2-1, rocked West Frankfort 12-2 in five innings at Lefty Pyle Field, exploding for a pair of five-run innings.
Friday at 4 p.m, the Indians welcome Waltonville/Sesser-Valier for a doubleheader.
"Chelsea pitched well and we again hit the ball all over the place," said Lady Indians coach Jason James said. "We still need to shore up our defense, but I am very proud of how we stayed focused today. We seemed really into this game."
Megan Edwards started the Du Quoin home run parade with a two-run inside-the-park shot in the second. Heather Cavins blasted a long three-run home run to dead centerfiel and freshman Cassidy Rice joined in with his first varsity round tripper, a three-run shot.
Kelsey Toler, Jessica Hirsch, Cavins, Ashley Hess, Hill and Edwards all managed two-hit games.
Kelsey Robinson and Michaela Brown also notched safeties.
Hill (2-0) struck out five.
Du Quoin posted a 3-0 junior varsity win over Frankfort in its opener. Rice was the winning hurler in the abbreviated contest.
