New Focus of Pinckneyville Skilled Care Thrift Shop

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Caring and Sharing Shop celebrated their new name and 501(c)3 non-profit status with a ribbon cutting Thursday morning. Caring and Sharing began life as the Skilled Care Thrift Shop.

With the new name comes a shift in purpose, as well. Caring and Sharing will continue to help nursing home residents, but plans to award five $1,000 scholarships to students in medical fields this year. The thrift shop also stands ready to help those who have suffered a disaster such as a home fire.

The thrift shop is currently located in the former Medical Clinic building on North Main Street.

The Caring and Sharing Shop is run by a board of seven people. They are: President- Shirley Welsch, Vice President- Tirzah Chapman, Secretary- Mary Catherine Keene, Treasurer- Vicki Weatherford and Directors- Patricia Gladson, Mildred Webber and Janice Epplin.

Their vision for the future includes a building fund and the eventual purchase of their own building. As a recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, the thrift shop will accept monetary donations to fund their vision.

Welsch expressed special thanks to Dr. Gene Cawvey and Patrick Mathis, who own the building housing the thrift shop. The location is ideal, she said.

The Caring and Sharing Shop is operated by volunteers. Volunteers are always welcome. Dues are $5 per year.
