Monday's Prep Softball & Baseball: Elverado squads blanked
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A strong Goreville team spoiled the home opener for Elverado High School's girls softball team Monday.
The visiting squad rode the six-hit and six-strikeout shutout pitching of Jeri Maze to an 11-0 win at the Elkville Village Park.
EHS is now 1-4 and visits West Frankfort Tuesday.
"We are just not very aggressive at the plate," Lady Falcons coach Donette Wheatley said. "We cannot strikeout six times with half of them looking. We just have to be more confident."
Sami Hicks, Chelsea Cochran, Kelsey Tuthill, Rachel Hunziker, Courtney Morse and Kelsi Teague all had hits with Corinne Wilson handling the pitching chores.
BASEBALL
At Steeleville Monday, the baseball Falcons fell 10-0 in five innings.
Kyle Whittington doubled and Bryce Mathis added a basehit.
Elverado visits West Frankfort Tuesday.
