Wednesday's Prep Baseball: Indians rock West Frankfort

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[At times, The Ballpark at Du Quoin High School can be a very unfriendly place for pitchers.

Wednesday turned out to be a prime example.

With the wind blowing a gale directly out of the south, the small porch in rightfield turned a sunny spring day into a total nightmare for West Frankfort hurler Brad Bozic.

The righthander was touched for five home runs-two from J.C. Davis-in the first two innings as Du Quoin romped to its sixth win, 22-2.

Now 6-2, the Indians host powerful Mount Vernon Friday before playing Flora and Elverado in Saturday's Pepsi/Mid-America Classic.

Frankfort is 2-2.

"We knew with the windy conditions the ball could really be jumping off the bat," Du Quoin coach Tim Craft said. "The entire line-up made sold contact. They came out swinging today. J.C. really set a good tone for us early."

Davis turned the gusty breeze around in the bottom of the first, blasting a long leadoff home run well back on to the DHS roof.

Later in the frame, Jake Stanhouse went deep with another shot off the school building.

In a six-run second inning, Davis smacked a three-run homer with Tyler Shelton and Brandon George following suit with solo shots.

Du Quoin then scored 10 times in the third as Trent Bigham and Cory Campanella smacked two-run safeties.

A two-run double from Andrew Riley was the big hit in the fourth as the Indians plated four more tallies.

Stanhouse and Kyle Kelley were both 3-for-3 with Kegan Robbins and Bigham adding two hits apiece.

All totalled, nine different Indians smacked at least one safety.

Davis (2-1) tossed the first three innings, surrendering just an infield single. Sam Kuhnert finished up.
