The Adventures of a Common Man is currently being published by Tate Publishing, a major book publisher and was released nation-wide January 19, 2010. Tate Publishing only accepts for publication approximately 3% of all manuscripts submitted to them. This was DeRousse's first attempt at publication.

The fictional book is about an ordinary man, Pete Russey, and his adventures. It begins with a youthful adventure on a camping trip in Summerville Woods with friends and continues to follows him through forty years of adult life. Throughout the book he relates his adventures with several different careers, raising of his family, and association with friends. This character has had many address changes (30 - 40). That in itself creates a multitude of opportunities for a variety of adventures. The following chapter titles may give you an idea of the flavor of the book: Summerville Woods, The Ol' College Try, The Army Physical, Firstborn, Fishing on the Rebedeoux, Tight Pants, Murphy's Army, The Intervention (How God is Dealing With Me), The Adult Way, Epilogue (A Love Story). The Adventures of a Common Man is family friendly, humorous, easy to read, and an entertaining book. The author insists that any reader can find something to identify with.
