The collision occurred last Thursday at approximately 5:30 a.m.
Pronounced dead at the scene was Laura M. Chaklos, 42, of Red Bud, who was driving a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis in the eastbound lane on LL Road. The other driver was Scott B. Seaborn, 62, of Waterloo, who was driving a 2010 Ford Escape.
Seaborn was treated for minor injuries and released. He told police he was driving south on Illinois 3 and saw the other vehicle. Seaborn's sport utility vehicle collided with the driver's side door of Chaklos' vehicle.
The Chaklos vehicle came to rest in a ditch alongside the intersection.
The accident was investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.
Chaklos was born Laura M. Painter in Virginia. She grew up in Belleville before settling in Red Bud. She was a nurse at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Chester and the Sparta Community Hospital. She was a member of M.A.D.D. She was preceded in death by a son Bradley M. Chaklos and survived by another son, Corey Chaklos of Red Bud.
