Workers' comp covered in free law workshop at SWIC

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Workers' Compensation is the title of the final workshop in the People's Law School series. This free event at the Southwestern Illinois College Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave., April 14 will consist of a lecture from 7-8:30 p.m., providing an overview of the Workers' Compensation Act, followed by a half-hour question and answer session.

Attorney Brad Badgley, who has represented injured workers for more than 30 years, will discuss the origins and purpose of the law and explain which types of employees are not covered by the act. Also, he will cover the basic aspects of the workers' compensation process from filing, including statutes of limitations, to requesting hearings. Badgley will explain the purpose of arbitrators, the role of the Industrial Commission and the various types of compensation benefits. Proposed reforms to the Workers' Compensation Act also will be discussed.
