Du Quoin Will Not Pick Up Debris From Spring Yard Cleanup
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Public Works Director Dale Spencer told the newspaper this morning that street department workers will not routinely pick up tree limbs, hedge clippings, etc. being taken to boulevards during neighborhood spring cleanup efforts.
Residents have gotten spoiled by the fact the street department worked so hard during Spring 2009 storms in April and May of last year to pick up debris from neighborhoods.
Storms like that are emergency situations, said Spencer.
The department does not have time to travel the neighborhoods every week checking on yard waste that has been carried to the boulevard.
"Any resident is allowed to burn yard waste on their own property from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. during warm weather," Spencer said.
In an extreme emergency or hardship case you can contact city hall and someone within the street department will decide if the situation warrants the city's assistance.
Otherwise, it is the responsibility of property owners to take care of routine yard maintenance waste yourself.
