Leonard J. Konkel

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leonard J. Konkel, 86, of Nashville, departed this life at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at Washington County Hospital.

Mr. Konkel was born July 19, 1923 in Bolo Township, Washington County, Ill., the son of John and Mary (Hoffman) Konkel. He was united in marriage to Mary (Rozycki) Konkel on October 9, 1943 at Posen, Ill. and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2006. He later married Dorothy (Szabelski) Stern on September 22, 2007 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville and she survives.

Leonard was a farmer and he owned and operated the General Store in Du Bois, Ill. He was a State Meat Inspector for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois and St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville. Leonard enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren&#39;s sporting events. He loved playing pinochle, dancing and spending time with his family.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Dorothy Konkel of Nashville; four children, Marion Konkel and wife Rosie of Pinckneyville, Bob Konkel and wife Elaine of Du Bois, Karen Blumhorst and husband Dave of Addieville and Connie Moeller and husband Gary of Nashville; a son-in-law, Michael O&#39;Rear and special friend Jennifer Morris of Du Bois; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, Aaron (Cindy) Konkel, Allen (Cindy) Konkel and their children Derek and Emily, Austin (Kerri) Konkel and their children Addie, Gunnar and Ivy, Adrian (Christy) Konkel and their children Aften and Karsen, Anson (April) Konkel and their child Kaylyn, Kami (Charlie) Heck and their children Jacob and Sophie, Josh (Autumn) Konkel and their children Hazel, Ruby and Scarlet, Kara (Brian) Linkey and their children Kaden and Kassidy, Calvin and Lucas O&#39;Rear, Tiffany, Marci and Jared Blumhorst, Brianne, Michael and Jennifer Moeller; nieces; nephews; other relations and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a son, Jimmie Konkel; a daughter, Monica O&#39;Rear; five sisters, Annie Spotanski, Frances Konkel, Gertrude Konkel, Josephine Leffner and Rose Konkel and seven brothers, Peter, Edmund, Dominick, Joseph, Michael, Raymond and Leo Konkel.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 15 with Fr. Oliver Nwachukwu and Fr. Andrew Knopik officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Friends called at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The Rosary was recited at the funeral home at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorial contributions can be made to the St. Ann School Endowment Fund or St. Charles Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
