Ruth A. Gaskins

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ruth A. Gaskins, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:20 a.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Ruth had worked as an LPN at St. John&#39;s Hospital in Springfield, Ill. for 16 years. She had also worked as a private duty nurse in Arizona. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Du Quoin. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #220 for 71 years and had held several offices. She was also a member of the Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary and was a former 4-H Leader.

She was born July 10, 1922 at Old Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Albert and Amanda (Bowlin) Miller.

She married Clarence Howard Gaskins in October of 1941 at Missouri and he preceded her in death in 1985.

She is survived by one daughter - Amanda Tompkins and husband John of Glendale, Ariz., one son - Al Gaskins of Coello, Ill., one sister - Margaret Berger of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandchild, and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Tim L. Scroggins officiating.

Friends called from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life and will be accepted at the funeral home.
