Friday's prep softball: Sparta edges Du Quoin
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin High School's girls softball team put together a solid performance Friday against Sparta, but couldn't overcome one of th area's hottest teams.
The host Lady Bulldogs downed Du Quoin 3-1 as Alexis Kohrs belted a two-run home run and allowed the Lady Indians just three hits.
Now 11-6 overall, Du Quoin is 2-4 in River-to-River Conference play and hosts Pinckneyville Tuesday.
Monday's game at Chester has been rescheduled to April 22.
"We didn't play that bad," DHS coach Jason James said. "We just could not come up with the big hit."

he lone Du Quoin run came in the third inning when Ashley Ward reached on a fielders choice and came around on an RBI triple by Jessica Hirsch.
Cassidy Rice and Kelsey Robinson had the only other hits for the Lady Indians.
Chelsea Hill (6-3) worked six strong innings in the pitching circle, giving just four hits. She fanned two.
