CGS Track and Field athletes do well at SIJHSAA Regional Meet
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Chester Grade School hosted the 2010 Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Regional Track and Field Meet at the Chester High School Track and Field Complex Tuesday, April 27.
The Jr. Jackets qualified two relay teams and five individuals to advance to the 2010 State Class L Track and Field Meet Saturday, May 8 at Rend Lake College. At Regionals the Chester boys finished a close second to team champion Waterloo, 106-103. The CGS girl's team also finished second to Waterloo. There were eight teams competing in the Regional Meet.
Andrew Frazer won both the 7th grade 100-Meter dash (12.5) and the 400-Meter dash (59.6). Those two victories qualified him to advance to State. Joel Clendenin won the Long Jump in his first appearance in that event for the season. He jumped 17-7 in his winning effort. He also qualified for State.
Austin Gendron was the winner of the 100-Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.4 and Lane Gibbs qualified in the Pole Vault with his 8-6 effort. Finally Charles Moreland qualified to compete at the State Meet in the 7th grade 100-Meter Dash (12.7).
Clendenin, Gibbs, Frazer and Moreland also qualified in two relays. The foursome won the 800-Meter Relay (1:45.2) and the 1600-Meter Relay (4:15). They will compete at State in both the 800 and 1600 relays.
The Chester Grade School Lady Jr. Jackets Track and Field Team finished second to Waterloo in the Regional Meet. There were eight teams overall competing. The girls will send three individuals who will compete in five events and one relay team to State.
McKenzi Rucker, a 7th grader, won three events at Regionals to qualify her for the State Meet in those events. She won the Long Jump (15-1), the 100-Meter dash (13.8) and the 200-Meter dash (29.3). Rucker will compete in all three of those a events at Rend Lake.
Another individual to qualify for the state Meet was Cheree Miller who won the 400-Meter dash with her time of 66.3. Chester's third individual to qualify for State was Aziah McBurney who won the 800-Meter Run with a time of 2:41.2.
The Girl's 400-Meter Relay Team of Sarah Bindel, Kristi Beam, Katie Roth and McKenzi Rucker also qualified for the State Meet with their victory in that event (56.0).
The Jr. Jackets will travel to Rend Lake College Saturday, May 8 to compete in the 2010 SIJHSAA State Meet. Coach Dave Molnar is very proud of his boy's and girl's squads for their excellent performances throughout the season. Molnar has won or challenged for 1st Place in every meet this 2010 season.
