Mayoral appointments announced at meeting

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[At Monday night's Chester City Council meeting Mayor Joe Eggemeyer announced his mayoral appointments for the fiscal year 2010-2011.

The following appointments and re-appointments were made: Part time police officers (appointed each year): Helen Rinehart, Kevin Woods, Mark Beam, Robert Hughes, Brad Coleman, Aaron Runge, Chris Bradley, and Ken Stout; Beautification Commission (two-year term): Clint Cowan, Aldermanic Liaison, replaced Nancy Crossland; Tourism Commission (one-year term): Clint Cowan, Aldermanic Liaison, replaced Nancy Crossland; Zoning Appeals Board (five-year term): Kenneth Taggart was re-appointed to the board, and Dean Andrews was re-appointed as Zoning Administrator (appointed each year); Planning Commission (ten members-one year term): Richard Allison, Linda Sympson, Sandra Starr, Ron Pechacek, Mike Athmer, Cheryl Saak, Shane Sullins; Chester Police & Fire Commission (three-year term): Ron Rathert replaced Marvin Hammel; Police Pension Board of Trustees (two-year term): Don Welge was re-appointed; Library Board (three-year term): Steve Wallace, Mary Ann Stumpe, and Carolyn Schwent, all re-appointed; Park & Recreation Board (three-year term): Steve Jany, Dawn Frazer, and James W. Best, all re-appointed; City Attorney (appointed each year): Jeffrey Kerkhover was re-appointed; City Engineer (appointed each year): J. T. Blankinship & Associates were re-appointed; Department Heads (appointed each year): Mitchel Eggemeyer - Water Plant Superintendent, Kenneth Surman - Sewer Superintendent, Kevin Diercks - Park Superintendent, Dennis Hartenberger - Water Distribution Superintendent, Brian Petrowske - Gas Superintendent, Randy Eggemeyer - Maintenance Superintendent, Charles Bargman - Recreational Director, Mark Gibbs - Cemetery Sexton, Randy Wofford - Cemetery Clerk, Mike Lochhead - Fire Chief, Ron Shemonic - Assistant Fire Chief, David Holder - EMA Coordinator, Charlie Bargman II - Assistant EMA Coordinator, Ryan Coffey - Chief of Police, Bobby Helmers - Deputy Chief, Elanna Bradley - Animal Control Officer; Park & Recreation Committee: Alderman Nancy Crossland replaced Clint Cowan as Chairman; Economic Development, Chamber & Beautification Committee: Alderman Clint Cowan replaced Nancy Crossland as Chairman.

Also at the meeting, eight streets were approved for oil and chip/overlay at an estimated cost of $30,875 The streets are as follows: Bode Lane - Rte. 3 to city limits; Old Plank Road - Koeneman Acres to skating rink; Taylor Street extended; 2nd Street - Chester Street to Park Blvd.; 6th Street - Park Blvd to dead end; Behind Courthouse; Buena Vista Street - behind courthouse to Mulberry Street; and Rainbow Drive.

In other council news:

The council approved a $5,000 donation to the Popeye Picnic Committee.

Grand Master Hans Martial Arts lease renewal for Skateland was approved.

The council ratified action of the Park & Recreation Committee in purchasing fencing for Cole Park. Landscape and Fence Solutions of Belleville was approved in the amount of $17,397.

No action was taken on Steve Niermann's request to mow fields near Cohen Complex for baling.

Proposals regarding employee health, dental and life insurance were tabled.

The next regularly scheduled city council meeting will be Monday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. at city hall in the council chambers.
