Thursfay's girls prep track: Du Quoin frosh wins three SIRR titles
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Kiyanna Dejear continued a remarkable freshman season Thursday, winning three gold medals and placing third in a fourth event during the River-to-River Conference's Mississippi Division Track and Field championship at Harrisburg's Taylor Field.
Dejear swept the three dash events-100 meters (12.7), 200 meters (26.9) and 400 meters (60.3)-and was third (15'5) in the long jump as the Lady Indians placed fifth among the six teams entered with 48 points. Pinckneyville had 46 points. Nashville (162), Chester (102), Anna-Jonesboro (98) and Sparta (97) completed the field.
"KIyanna has an amazing God-given talent," DHS assistant coach Shawn File said. "The sky is really her limit. The whole place was buzzing over her performances."
While Dejear's big day stole the spotlight, Du Quoin managed to put together season's best efforts in nearly every event.
Freshman Alexis Mitchell (17.8) was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles while Shelby George earned a fifth place discus medal.
"I am so very proud of these young ladies and their performances today," File said.
Du Quoin runs Monday at the Christopher Invitational and then heads to Sparta for the Class 1A Sectional a week from today,.
Pinckneyville earned All-SIRR in three events (first or second place finish() by sweeping to first in the 4x100 (52.9) and 4x200 (1:53.3) relays. The Lady Panthers were also second in the 4x400.
