Betty Jo King

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Betty Jo King, 84, of Elkville, passed away at 6:35 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin after a brief illness.

Betty had worked as an inspector for Phelps Dodge for 15 years and had also worked at P.R. Mallory. She was a lifemember of the Dowell Baptist Church and had served as treasurer for many years. She was also an avid bowler for years. She&#39;ll be loved and remembered by everyone who knew her.

She was born Feb. 22, 1926 at Elkville, Ill., the daughter of Joseph H. and Ethel (Fox-Flowers) Degenhardt.

She is survived by two daughters - Barbara Shaw and husband Dale of Elkville, and Deborah Finney of Springfield, Ill., two grandchildren - Angela Lesser and husband Mike of St. Louis, Mo. and Justin Shaw and wife Stacy of Raeford, N.C., one great grandchild - Madison Shaw of Raeford, N.C., one uncle - Rayburn Fox and wife Charlene of Carbondale, and two cousins - Tommy Tow and wife Julie of Joelton, Tenn., and Bryant Tow and son Garrison of Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gary Pate officiating.

Friends called from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.

Friends may make memorials to the Dowell Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
