Chester Beautification Commission news
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Chester Beautification Commission continues to strive to enhance our town. Take Pride Awards will soon be announced; the Farmers Market begins this month; spring banners were hung; the City Steps are being revamped; new picnic tables have been set at Smith's Landing Park; and flowers are being planted in containers around town.
Take Pride Award nominations are being accepted; citizens are encouraged to submit addresses for nominations to be awarded for attractive property. An award sign is placed in the yard/entryway of the homeowner/business place and a photo for the newspaper is published recognizing the attractiveness of their property such as exterior building renovations, landscaping, flower gardens, and hardscapes (masonry work, woodwork and other non-plant elements). Nominations for this award can be made by calling Charlie Bargman (826.3454) or Marlene Seymour (826.3330).
The Farmer's Market begins its 7th season on May 15th at the gazebo area. Come early for the widest selection. For more information or to be a vendor, contact Frank Benedict (826.3370).
The City Steps have a new look and will continue to look even better. The revamping of the City Steps has been undertaken by Matthew Heberlie as his Eagle Scout project. Great changes have already been accomplished such as ground cover planted, City Steps painted on the riser of a step at the lower entrance, and more. Pillars are presently being constructed at the top entrance. Matthew is completing this project under the agreement with the Beautification Commission. The Chester Tourism Commission donated banners.
New park benches and flora have been installed at the Smith Landing Park.
All city flower pots have been planted thanks to Tom and Cathy Sauer. Unfortunately, some of the flowers have been pulled out. If anyone sees vandalism please contact the city police immediately.
