Historic and civic sites to be featured

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[More wall displays planned for the Chester Welcome Center will feature area Historic and Civic Sites. Two wall displays will highlight historic landmarks in Randolph County and Chester civic sites. The framed displays will feature colorful current photos, some older photos and informational text about the sites.

The "Historic Landmarks" display will spotlight Little Mary's River Covered Bridge, Shiloh College, the Olde Landmark Inn, the Stone House, Charter Oak School, the Randolph County Museum and Archives, and the Roscoe Misselhorn Art Gallery. The display will include text giving a brief history of each site.

The "Civic Sites" display will include information about the Chester Public Library, Chester Post Office, Randolph County Courthouse, Menard Correctional Center, Cohen Home and Evergreen Cemetery. Some current and some historic photos of the sites will be featured. The final proofs are being completed on the interior displays for the Chester Welcome Center. The Center remains open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with volunteers from the Western Egyptian RSVP program. Anyone interested in serving once a month as a volunteer at the Welcome Center may contact the RSVP office at 965-9523 or the Mayor's office at 826-5114. The City of Chester appreciates the hours donated by the volunteers to serve visitors to the community.
