A-J downs Sparta

Anna-Jonesboro defeated Sparta by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Murphysboro Softball Regional. Even though they did not have a hit in the first inning, Sparta took advantage of some Anna-Jonesboro errors and a walk to grab a 1-0 lead. But the Lady Wildcats soon settled down and took control with three runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth. Both teams scored in the fifth inning, then the Lady Bulldogs added one in the seventh.

Shanell Roberts was the offensive leader with two hits and an RBI, Taylor Martin had one hit and an RBI and Jade Vaughn, Julian Sroka and Taylor Craig added one hit apiece. Alexis Kohrs took the loss for Sparta, allowing six hits and six walks in six innings of work.
