</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The new park along the Chester riverfront has some more improvements. Four new picnic tables have been installed in the grassy areas of the new park. The tables were purchased as the final part of the DCEO grant awarded to the City of Chester. The table frames and treated wood were purchased and the tables were then built by City of Chester employees from the Park and Cemetery departments.
The new park was named Smith's Landing to recognize the original founder of Chester. The park also features a grassy area, winding walking path and decorative lights. The center of the park has the lovely raised flower bed in the shape of a boat with an authentic antique boat anchor as the centerpiece. The assortment of plants and flowers add color and fragrance to the lovely area.
The park should be enjoyed by the numerous people who take evening rides to view the mighty Mississippi and many who spend their lunch breaks along the shady riverfront. The City of Chester appreciates the efforts by the city employees to bring these latest improvements to Smith's Landing and the hours spent by volunteers to maintain the lovely boat flower bed. Be sure to take a walk through Smith's Landing and take a break on the new picnic tables.
