Trustee resigns in Evansville

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Seems they could use a timeout in Evansville, where Trustee Nick Schoenberger resigned from the Village Board as last week's board meeting headed toward adjournment.

Schoenberger didn't resign quietly, but took a parting shot at Village President Mark Otten. The people of Evansville made a mistake in putting Otten in office, Schoenberger said.

"You're not a mayor," Schoenberger told Otten. He criticized Otten for not making time for citizens, not returning phone calls and not working with elected county, state, and federal officials for the good of the village.

He also blamed the resignation of former Clerk Lisa Ohms-Schoenberger, who left after serving in the office for seven years to accept other employment. She'd never thought about leaving before Otten took office, Schoenberger said.

He also thanked the citizens for electing him and said he'd put his heart into the job.

Schoenberger's resignation brings to two the number of vacancies on the board, which has yet to replace Trustee Danny Schilling, who died in March from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Ohms-Schoenberger was also in attendance and questioned why her successor Cindy Kueker continued to use CMC (certified Municipal Clerk) after her name on documents. She said she'd been entitled to use the designation having earned the accreditation.

Kueker said she'd erred and would correct the situation.

There were other unhappy folks at the meeting, too. A number of citizens attended to complain about the Evansville Athletic Association, a private organization run by parents for summer youth baseball and softball programs.
