That changed last week when Steeleville took the home field for two key district match-ups.
Monday's action saw Steeleville earn an impressive 4-2 win over Pinckneyville. Steeleville got on the board first with two runs in the first inning, then Pinckneyville tied the game with two runs in the third. Steeleville was able to control the last half of the contest with one run in the fifth and one in the sixth while holding Pinckneyville scoreless the rest of the way.
David Winters had a great night from the mound for Steeleville. He pitched seven innings and gave up only seven hits in the win.
Offensively Steeleville was led by Ben Vogt with a double, a single and an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Winters and Andrew Pokrzywinski also had key hits for Steeleville.
Wednesday's home game did not go as well as Steeleville lost to a tough Murphysboro team by a score of 13-3 in five innings. Murphysboro came out strong and scored five runs in the top of the first, but Steeleville also showed signs of life by putting up two runs in the bottom of the first. However, Murphysboro put the game out of reach with three in the second, four in the third and one in the fifth while Steeleville could only manage one more run in the third.
Pokrzywinski hit a double and a single for Steeleville, Vogt had a double and Patrick Heller and Clint Young added one single each. Josh Diercks was the losing pitcher. In three innings he gave up eight hits, walked three and struck out two. Travis Carlock worked two innings of relief and allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two.
