Ohio Valley Gold & Silver Refinery Roadshow Buying Old & Gold

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ohio Valley Gold & Silver Refinery is willing to pay cash for jewelry and other items. Three representatives are located at the Super 8 Motel in Pinckneyville until 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Ronnie Stinson of Ohio Valley said so far they've seen some war memorabilia and jewelry, both costume and real. Gold is currently worth $1,202 an ounce.

Offers on jewelry are determined by the purity of the metal and whether or not there is a market for it.

"10 karat gold is only 41 percent gold," Stinson said.

Ohio Valley examines the items brought to them on the spot then offers to purchase the items based on what collectors are willing to pay. Stinson and his co-workers, Eldon and Lois Redus have an initial budget of $200,000 to spend in Perry County.

Stinson knows quite a bit about pocket watches, coins, German WW II memorabilia and banks.

Eldon Redus is a collector of war memorabilia. His areas of expertise are firearms and war memorabilia.

Lois Redus knows toys, jewelry and dolls.

Ohio Valley, based in Springfield, Ill., has a team of experts available by internet or phone to help with any items Stinson and the Reduses aren't sure about.

Residents are encouraged to bring in their old gold, silver and costume jewelry, coins (1964 and older), toys, banks, musical instruments and other "junk."

Jewelry need not be in mint condition.

"We buy a lot of one earrings," Stinson said. Broken jewelry and dental gold are also accepted.

Age does not always equal value. Rare items are worth the most. However, old items could be valuable.

President Abraham Lincoln personally signed a lot of land grants during his tenure. Collectors will pay for documents signed by persons of note.
