</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A change in summer plans for one Du Quoin Christian Fellowship junior high school student has turned out to be very beneficial.

Kolton Pavloff, 13, opted to skip the summer baseball season and has concentrated his efforts on the golf course.

The son of Greg and Angie Pavloff joined the Southern Illinois Golf Assocation (SIGA) Junior Golf Tour and has put together a solid rookie season.

Heading into Monday's Jackson County Junior Tournament, Pavoff has entered-and placed high-in a half dozen SIGA events.

He was fifth at the Billie Ray Craig Junior Classic and finished sixth the very next day in the Trusted Choice Big "I" Junior Classic.

He then put together a sold fourth place effort at the McLeansboro Junior Invitational in Hamilton County.

So far in July, he's been 11th at the Gambit Junior Cup Classic and third George Twomey Junior Team Championship at Hickory Ridge.

Last week, Pavloff was fourth in the Nashville Junior Classic.

be interested to know how my son, Kolton [13 yrs old], is making out this summer. Kolton decided not to play baseball because he wanted to play on the SIGA Junior Golf Tour. It was not easy to give up baseball, but unfortunately he inherited his dad's foot speed. The game kept getting faster and Kolton didn't.

To-date Kolton has played in all of the SIGA junior events and is putting together a solid rookie season.

Kolton's dad is athletic director, boys basketball coach and golf coach at CFS. He's also one of the area's top baseball umpires.

"It was not easy to give up baseball, but unfortunately he inherited his dad's foot speed," said Greg Pavloff. The game kept getting faster and Kolton didn't. In many of these tourney's s it takes a round of par or 1-3 over to win. These kids can definitely play. With several tournaments remaining , Kolton hope to continue to improve and maintain consistently strong finishes."
