Du Quoin Man Killed in I-57 Motorcycle Accident
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A Du Quoin man has died as the result of a collision among motorcycle riders along I-57 in Williamson County at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
Illinois State Police at the District 13 command in Du Quoin identify the victim as Dudley L. Vanzandt, 48, of Du Quoin. He passed away at 10:40 a.m.
He was apparently riding northbound on I-57 at Mile Post 45.5 with three others riders when three of the four motorcycles came in contact with each other while pulling over.
Two other riders--Chance W. Townsend, 38, of Marion and Gary Lynn Gould, 42, of Murphysboro--received major injuries and were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Motorcycles ridden by the injured men were taken to Black Diamond Harley in Marion. The Vanzandt motorcycle was picked up by a towing service.
VanZandt had worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a day crew worker. He attended the Dowell Baptist Church with his wife Lisa. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 347, Masons, Shriners, Sons of the American Legion and was a Stormrider.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Elkville Christian Church with Rev. Gary Pate and Rev. Steve McKeown officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Elkville Christian Church.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park at Murphysboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the college fund for Mia VanZandt and will be accepted at the funeral home.
