Clerk Heads Off Election Judge Shortage

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Election judges are needed in Perry County for this November‚s election and interested citizens are encouraged to sign up this week, according to Perry County Clerk Kevin Kern.

Interested citizens must be registered voters in Perry County, have simple organizational skills, and be able to work long days. All potential judges must declare a political party affiliation in order to work. Judges must also attend a 2-hour training class to be held in late September. Election judges earn $125 per election.

Precinct committeemen and political party chairmen choose most election judges every two years. By agreement of Perry County Republican Chairman Bruce Morgenstern and Democratic Chairman Gene Gross, Kern is opening up the process to the public at-large this year. New judges are needed to fill vacancies and alternate positions in precincts all over Perry County.

"Election judges are a vital part of our elections process," Kern said. "This is a good opportunity for civic-minded citizens to help serve the community, as well as earn some money for their efforts."

Interested citizens should contact the County Clerk's office at (618) 357-5116 by Monday, Aug. 2, 2010.
