Lady Indians 5-1 after knocking off West Frankfort
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The DHS Volleyball Team ran their record to 5-1 overall by defeating the Frankfort Redbirds 25-19 and 25-17 on Tuesday evening. The starting lineup of Kelsey Toler, Megi Jones, Keawna Anders, Jessica Hirsch, Michaela Brown, Rachel Maddox, and Ashley Ward at Libero played well for Coach Isaac Miller. The Indians got off to a fast start at 7-2 with their outstanding serving and defense. Frankfort came back to bring the score to 7-8. DuQuoin took over and ran the score to 13-7 before missing a serve. Maddox came into the front row for DQ and immediately spiked a hard drive to the floor. Her presence at the net made a big difference in the game with her spiking and blocking abilities. DQ served to 16-11 before giving up the ball. Frankfort was called for a double hit, but DQ gave the ball back. Frankfort served well and took the score to 15-17 before DQ called a timeout. DQ got the ball back on a Kelsey Toler spike. Anders serves handcuffed Frankfort as she ran the score to 21-16 before Frankfort called a timeout. A mix-up in communication gave the ball back to Frankfort. DuQuoin had to scramble to get the ball back. Ashley Ward (Libero) had two super digs to keep DQ in contention. Kelsey Toler served to 24-19. Frankfort took over the serving, but the game ended on a beautiful block by DuQuoin's Rachel Maddox.
In game one, Anders had five points and one ace. Jones scored 4 points; Ward had 3 points and two aces.
In the second game of the match, Ashley Ward (Libero) started for DuQuoin at the service line. Anders and Maddox spikes ran the score to 5-0. In that series Ward had a tremendous dig. Frankfort took over and closed the score to 6-3. DQ had the serve again, but Frankfort fought back to 6-6 and then lost the serve on a Michaela Brown spike. Frankfort moved to 7-7, but put the serve in the net. With the score at 8-8, DQ scored on Maddox's serves. Frankfort brought the score to 13-11 on several good spikes. Jessica Hirsch served to a a DQ lead at 15-13. A Kelsey Toler massive spike was a highlight in that series. Hirsch continued to serve well and the score was 17-13. A net call against Frankfort benefitted the Indians. Kelsey Toler, again at the net, spiked a beautiful kill running the score to 20-14. Frankfort and DQ both served for one rotation before Frankfort moved the score to 21-16. DuQuoin took over the serve. Maddox spiked a beauty to put DQ on the board at 23-16. An errant Frankfort serve put DQ at 24-17. DQ won the match on a Frankfort miscue at the net making the final score 25-17.
In the second game Hirsch scored 8 points and Ward had 5 five points. Overall Maddox had 4 kills, Toler three kills, and Anders had one. Megi Jones had eleven assists and Jessica Hirsch had six digs overall.
In the Junior Varsity game, DuQuoin lost two games and the match. The scores were 25-22 and 26-24. This was the JV's first game of the season. In the first game, Jessie Martin had four points and two aces, Shantanna Fann had three points and one ace. Jessie Martin also had four points and one ace in the second game of the match.
Coach Isaac Miller commented that "we are playing really well as a team right now. Hirsch's serving was a big help. She really hit her spots. There are things we need to improve on, but we are playing really well right now. Hope we can keep on rolling." The Volleyball assistant coach is Staci Davis, a former DHS volleyball player.
DuQuoin plays in the Marissa Tournament the rest of the week.
