Du Quoin wins, P'ville drops a pair in volleyball tournament

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin moved to 6-1 on the regular season and began their 2010 Labor Day Volleyball Tournament with a victory over Steeleville at Marissa high school on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Indians won the match 21-11, 21-13 and return to action Thursday against Lebanon and Mehlville.

Rebekah Maddox led the way with 7 kills, Keawna Anders and Kelsey Toler each added 4.

Megi Jones had 8 assists and 7 digs, Jessie Martin added 8 assists.

Michaela Brown led Du Quoin with 8 sevice points on 9-of-10, Jessica Hirsch had 6 points on 6-for-7 with a pair of aces. Anders had 4 service points, going a perfect 7-for-7 on serves with 2 aces.

Toler also had 2 blocks in the game for the Lady Indians.

Pinckneyville was not as fortunate in the tournament, dropping both matches they played yesterday at New Athens high school. The Lady Panthers (0-2) opened with a loss to Valmeyer 21-14 and 21-13 before returning to face Columbia. The Eagles took that contest 21-14 and 21-10.

Haleigh Hagood had 4 kills in game one for the Lady Panthers, Katie Duvardo had 6 digs. In the second game, Maddy Keith led the way with 3 kills.

Pinckneyville faces the third place finisher in Pool A (Marissa/C&#39;ville, Gibault, Trico, Murphysboro) on Thursday.
