Donald Steven Bruns

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Donald Steven Bruns, 79, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:20 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Donald was a mechanic at BICC Cable in Du Quoin retiring in 1996 after 30 years of service to the company.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Don was born Feb. 22, 1931 at Coulterville, Ill., the son of Joseph and Cornelia (Degenhardt) Bruns.

He was first married to Shirley Grace Spencer Bruns and she preceded him in death in 1985. He then married Nona Kay Davis on May 26, 1990 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two sons- Donald A. Bruns of Du Quoin, Anthony "Todd" Bruns and wife, Nairim, of San Antonio, Tex., three daughters- R. Gayle Bruns of Fort Worth, Tex., Beth Simmons and husband Harvey of Herrin and Kim Normington and husband David of Pinckneyville, two granddaughters- Ashley Kay Bruns of San Antonio, Tex. and Alexis Ragsdale of Herrin, two grandsons- Ryne A. Bruns of San Antonio, Tex. and Brandon Ragsdale of Du Quoin, sister- Theresa Miller and husband Elmer of Spring, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Fr. Nick Junker officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

At Don&#39;s request cremation followed the funeral services.

Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
