10th inning a charm for DMS softball
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ It is always exciting when DuQuoin and Pinckneyville meet for any type of competition, but the DMS vs. Pinckneyville softball game on Wednesday gave fans a ton of excitement and lots to talk about. The game was a continuous game from last week's rainout. The game picked up in the top of the second with DuQuoin winning 5-2. In the bottom of the second, Pinckneyville scored two to close to 5-4. Pinckneyville tied the game in the fifth inning at 5-5 and went ahead in the seventh 6-5. DuQuoin scored one in the seventh to tie the game again at 6-6. The tie continued to stand up in the eighth and ninth innings. Then came the tenth inning, and DuQuoin broke the tie in a big, big way. DuQuoin scored 8 runs in the top of the tenth on 7 hits, two walks, and a costly Pinckneyville error. The big blast was a triple by Amanda Atteberry.
Amber Williams, Marisa Ferguson, Abby Doerr, Jacqueline Harsy, Carissa Graham, and Nikki Ridgeway all had singles in that inning. The walks went to Timbra Mansfield and Hannah Marek. Pinckneyville had no answer in the bottom of tenth and the final score was 14-6.
The winning pitcher was Marisa Ferguson. Ferguson allowed six runs, on ten hits, 9 strikeouts, and two walks. Coach Jason James thought that Ferguson did a good job putting forth one of her better pitching performances. The losing pitcher was Brooklyn Morrow who allowed fourteen runs on 17 hits, 11 strikeouts, and seven walks. DuQuoin was scored for three errors and Pinckneyville two errors.

Kat Robinson played on defense.
Pinckneyville hitting: Kaitlyn Sweeney 2-3, (2B), 2 RBI; Ashley Maxey 1-5; Maddie Jones 3-5 , (3B), RBI; Brooklyn Morrow 1-5, RBI; Keelyn Stein 1-5; Kaylea Gleason 1-4; Raygan Yates 1-4. DuQuoin is now 9-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference. DuQuoin plays Murphysboro at home on Thursday.
Coach James was very excited about his team's performance in the eighth inning. "It was awesome! We came out a little flat in the beginning. We battled; we did not get down and continued to play hard. I am happy with our "bats" in that last inning."
