Pinckneyville Wins Governor's Hometown Award

Pinckneyville won in the Historic Preservation category.
Economic Development Director Carrie Gilliam said she often saw "Governor's Hometown Award" signs when traveling through other towns and became curious as to how Pinckneyville could receive that honor.
The process involved a written presentation on a 2009 project and, if selected, a live presentation. Pinckneyville chose to focus on the 50th anniversary show of the American Thresherman Association.
"I am so proud and honored to have been in on this and wish to thank Rebeccah Burris, Charlie and Mary Greer, Gaylen Greer, and the Mayor and city council for all of their help and support for this endeavor," Gilliam said.
The application was lengthy. However, it was worth the effort because Pinckneyville was chosen to move on to a live presentation. A video and slide show on the ATA show was given at the Hilton in Springfield on Aug. 28.
Gilliam was notified this week by DCEO that Pinckneyville was the winner in the Historic Preservation category. A group of five individuals will represent the town at the Oct. 12 award ceremony.
Gilliam has been busy outside of the Hometown Award application; the city launched its new and improved website this week, as well. Check out the new site at http://ci.pinckneyville.il.us/index.shtml.
The site features information on each department, as well as contact numbers and pertinent information.
